Argan Oil – The “Liquid Gold” of Morocco as a Hair Care Oil

Argan oil is packed with Vitamin E and antioxidants, making it a fantastic moisturizer and repair treatment for dry, frizzy, or damaged hair. It is a very popular hair care oil because it can be used in many different ways.

I like to use argan oil in the following way: first, I wash my hair once with a deep-cleansing shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Then, I gently towel-dry my hair to remove excess water. Starting about two to three centimeters away from the roots, I apply the oil section by section, working with large strands. I then wrap the sections in foil in two parts and let the oil sit for 20–30 minutes. After that, I wash my hair again, and if needed, I apply conditioner or a hair mask as usual. Sometimes, I also add a few drops of argan oil into the conditioner and distribute it on the ends of my hair before rinsing it out.

Castor Oil – For Hair Growth Boost

Castor oil is widely known for its hair growth properties. Rich in ricinoleic acid, it promotes better blood circulation to the scalp, which can encourage hair growth.

This is the natural oil that’s great to use from the roots all the way to the ends of the hair. In fact, I often like to massage it well into the roots for even better results.

Jojoba Oil – Perfect for Scalp Health

Jojoba oil has a structure similar to the natural sebum produced by the scalp. (Making it ideal for balancing oil production and preventing scalp dryness.)

This lightweight oil is one of the easiest oils to use. It doesn’t weigh the hair down and is much easier to rinse out compared to other oils. That’s why many people use it as a base oil when making various homemade hair masks or serums. Despite its light texture, it is a highly nourishing and effective treatment.

Helps regulate scalp pH
Reduces dandruff and flakiness

Rosemary Oil – Natural Hair Growth Booster

Rosemary oil has been proven to stimulate blood circulation in the scalp, promoting faster hair growth and reducing hair thinning.

This essential oil is often used not only in the form of essential oil but also as a hair rinse made from its decoction. Some people swear by applying a serum containing rosemary essential oil to the scalp (never use 100% pure rosemary essential oil directly on the skin — this is strictly forbidden!), then rinsing it out with cooled, freshly brewed rosemary water before finally washing their hair with shampoo.

Strengthens hair follicles
Helps prevent hair loss

How to Use Hair Oils?

For scalp treatments: Always mix essential oils in a carrier oil before applying them to the scalp. Massage a few drops of the mixture into your scalp and leave it on for at least 30 minutes before washing. Alternatively, you can use pre-made blends where essential oils are already mixed with a carrier oil in the correct ratio:

For split ends: Apply a small amount of a nourishing hair oil to the ends of your hair to prevent breakage and dryness.

As an overnight treatment: Apply a hair oil before bed, let it absorb overnight, and wash it out in the morning for deep hydration and repair.

A tip from me as a hairdresser: it’s always best to experiment and find out which oil works best for your hair ends. Jojoba oil is a great choice because it doesn’t weigh down even fine hair. For curly hair, argan oil usually works very well. Coconut oil is a gentler, softer option that is often used on children’s scalps or even on dry eyebrows, as it’s completely safe if they accidentally touch or ingest a small amount.

These are general facts, but when it comes to leave-in oils for hair ends, it’s always worth finding what suits you personally. I recommend starting with a small bottle of one type of oil and seeing how your hair responds before buying larger quantities.

Final Thoughts

Hair oils are a natural and effective way to maintain healthy hair. Whether you choose argan, castor, coconut, jojoba, or rosemary oil, each has unique benefits for different hair types and concerns. Try them out and enjoy shiny, strong, and nourished hair!
